HOW TO USE SOCIAL MEDIA TO ENGAGE YOUR AUDIENCE

Social media is often deemed to be one of the most effective marketing tools for small- and medium-sized companies. DIfferent social media platforms require different marketing strategies. So how can we effectively use social media to promote our business?

  1. Stay active and relevant

The allure of social media is the relevance of its content. Users are posting minute-by-minute updates of going-ons in their own fields and industries. It is important that you stay extremely relevant when using social media. Week-old news is just that, a week overdue. Post industry news, company updates, and new insights the moment you get them. By being active, you are letting your followers know that you are monitoring the page. Stay ahead of the curve by providing your audience with new information before your competitors do.

  1. Quality versus quantity

More is better, right? In the case of social media, it is both a yes and no. How many times have you been on Facebook and gone; “that’s the third time I’ve seen this ad today!” or how many times have you scrolled down your Twitter feed trying to look for that one profile you are following to see if they have posted an update.

It is important to understand the unique selling points of different social media platforms because it will help you have a better understanding of “what to post” and “how many to post”.

  1. Interact with your audience

Social media is an effective marketing tool because it allows you to build a relationship with the community you are operating in. With that being said, you actually have to interact with your audience to build a relationship. Posting company updates, news, and industry insights can help you engage your audience but it doesn’t necesarrily help you to build relationships.

Interacting with your audience can be as easy as replying to your followers’ comments. Consider creating posts that include calls to action such as getting your followers to “share”, “like”, or “tell us something”. Things like these elicit an emotional response and inspire passionate conversations.

  1. Consider automation

In order to remain relevant on social media, you might have to constantly monitor your pages. Doing this by the hour on a daily basis can be exhausting. That is why you should consider using applications, extensions, and add-ons that can ease some of that burden. Sites like Hootsuite and Buffer allow you to consolidate all of your social media platforms into one dashboard and also allows you to schedule and queue updates, all of which make managing your social media presence that much easier.
